When your Google Pixel 9 Pro's WiFi won't turn on, it can cut you off from the internet. This annoying problem is usually caused by a software hiccup or a settings conflict, not a hardware failure. Here are the most effective ways to get your connection back.

Why Your Pixel 9 Pro WiFi Won't Activate

A few common issues can stop your WiFi from turning on. These often include:

  • Airplane mode being turned on by accident
  • Battery saver modes that limit WiFi to save power
  • Problems caused by a third-party app
  • Network settings that need to be refreshed
  • A minor system error that a restart can fix

1. Restart Your Google Pixel 9 Pro

Start with the easiest fix. A restart clears out temporary glitches that may be blocking the WiFi radio.

  1. 1.Press and hold the Power button.
  2. 2.Tap "Restart" on the screen.
  3. 3.Wait for the phone to fully reboot.
  4. 4.Try switching WiFi on again from the quick settings or Settings.

2. Turn Off Battery Saver

Battery saving features can sometimes disable background WiFi to extend battery life.

  1. 1.Open Settings and go to Battery.
  2. 2.Look for "Battery Saver".
  3. 3.If it's on, toggle it off.
  4. 4.Check if you can now enable WiFi.

3. Toggle Airplane Mode

This quickly resets all your device's wireless radios, including WiFi.

  1. 1.Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the quick settings panel.
  2. 2.Tap the Airplane Mode icon to turn it on.
  3. 3.Wait for about 15 seconds.
  4. 4.Tap the icon again to turn Airplane Mode off.
  5. 5.Now try to turn your WiFi back on.

4. Forget Your WiFi Network

Removing and re-adding your network can resolve authentication or configuration problems.

  1. 1.Go to Settings > Network & internet > Internet.
  2. 2.Tap the settings gear next to your saved network's name.
  3. 3.Tap "Forget" at the bottom of the screen.
  4. 4.Search for the network again and reconnect by entering the password.

5. Reset Your Network Settings

This will erase all saved WiFi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile data settings back to default. Your personal files and apps remain untouched.

  1. 1.Open Settings and go to System > Reset options.
  2. 2.Tap "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth".
  3. 3.Confirm by tapping "Reset settings".
  4. 4.Your phone will apply the reset. Afterwards, reconnect to your WiFi network.

6. Check Date and Time

An incorrect date or time can interfere with the security certificates used by WiFi networks.

  1. 1.Go to Settings > System > Date & time.
  2. 2.Make sure "Set time automatically" is enabled.
  3. 3.If it's already on, try turning it off and back on again.

7. Disable Adaptive Connectivity

On your Pixel, this feature manages switching between WiFi and mobile data to save battery. It can sometimes be too aggressive.

  1. 1.Navigate to Settings > Network & internet.
  2. 2.Tap "Adaptive connectivity".
  3. 3.Toggle the switch off.
  4. 4.Test to see if your WiFi will now turn on.

8. Boot Into Safe Mode

Safe Mode temporarily disables all apps you installed. If WiFi works here, a third-party app is the cause.

  1. 1.Press and hold the Power button on the screen until you see the power menu.
  2. 2.Touch and hold "Power off" until you see the "Reboot to safe mode" prompt.
  3. 3.Tap "OK" to restart in Safe Mode. You'll see "Safe mode" in the bottom corner.

If WiFi works in Safe Mode, restart normally and uninstall recent apps one by one to find the problematic one.

To exit Safe Mode, simply restart your phone normally.

9. Perform a Factory Reset

Use this only as a last resort if no other solution works. It will erase all data from your Google Pixel 9 Pro and return it to its original out-of-the-box state.

  1. 1.Go to Settings > System > Reset options.
  2. 2.Tap "Erase all data (factory reset)".
  3. 3.Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm.

Critical: Ensure you have a complete backup of your photos, files, and app data before doing this.

Manually Controlling WiFi

You can always turn WiFi on or off manually through your settings.

  1. 1.Open Settings and go to Network & internet > Internet.
  2. 2.Use the toggle at the top next to "Wi-Fi" to turn it on or off.

For quicker access, swipe down twice from the top of your screen to open the full quick settings panel and tap the WiFi icon.

Start with the simple steps like restarting or toggling Airplane Mode. Work through the list methodically, as most WiFi issues on the Pixel 9 Pro are software-related and can be fixed without a repair shop.
